ABOUT

Our Story

Teviot Park began with a bold idea: to create a world-class event and equestrian precinct for Boonah and the Scenic Rim.

A passionate group of local community members envisioned transforming the Boonah Showgrounds with an international-standard arena, making it a vibrant hub for events, gatherings, and equestrian activities.

Our journey involved learning from successful projects across Australia’s east coast, shaping Teviot Park with a deep respect for our local heritage. The tranquil blues and vibrant greens of Teviot Brook inspired our branding, reflected in our logo and facility design, creating a serene and cohesive look that celebrates our region’s natural beauty.

Teviot Park stands as a symbol of our community’s resilience. Despite challenges from droughts, fires, and floods, Boonah’s spirit remains strong. Since 1932, the Boonah Show Society and its dedicated volunteers have been central to our community’s events. Teviot Park continues this proud tradition, representing our ability to overcome challenges and our dedication to our heritage. Teviot Park is more than just a place—it’s a story in progress, and we’re excited to share it with you.

History

Teviot Brook is a key part of our landscape and history, deeply embedded in the Scenic Rim’s heritage. The name “Teviot” is a familiar one around the region, seen in features like the Teviot Ranges, Teviotville, Teviot Clydesdales, and the Teviot Theatre—and now, Teviot Park.

The name “Teviot” dates back to 1828 when Charles Fraser, botanist and member of the 46th Regiment, explored the area with Alan Cunningham and Patrick Logan. Fraser recorded in his journal on August 6, 1828:

“We reached the northern edge of this region and saw wide, marshy flats with a range of picturesque hills to the north. We named these hills Minto Craigs and called the stream flowing at their base ‘Teviot.’”

Alan Cunningham, who had Scottish heritage, likely named the stream after the River Teviot in Scotland, a major tributary of the River Tweed.

This Scottish connection is celebrated at Teviot Park, especially during the Scenic Rim Clydesdale Spectacular. This annual event honors the Scottish settlers of our district and the significance of the Clydesdale horse, a breed with strong Scottish roots.
